On September 27 – 29, 2023, the IEA TCP Energy Storage task 41, took place in Utrecht, The Netherlands. This IEA task focuses on the economics of energy storage, ranging from presentations on the economics of battery storage to molten salt storage and pit storage. One of the conclusions was that the economics of energy storage was still difficult, requiring trading on different energy markets simultaneously to make a positive business case. The latest EERA EEIP whitepaper on Industrial Thermal Energy Storage was presented here, trying to stimulate the discussion on the importance of demonstration projects, economic aspects of heat storage and data sharing.
